Lunabotics
Designing and building an autonomous lunar mining robot for NASA's Lunabotics competition.

Justin Zondor
Project Lead
Overview
Lunabotics is a competitive lunar rover challenge. Each year the team designs, builds, and operates a rover at the University of Central Florida and Kennedy Space Center. The project incorporates aspects of mechatronics, control systems, and has a heavy focus on autonomous operation.
Key Systems
- 3D Computer Aided Design: A multi-stage process where the entire rover is built in Fusion360 prior to manufacturing.
- Autonomous Robotics: 3D localization and obstacle avoidance using Lidar allows the rover to operate without human input.
- Hands-On Manufacturing: A brand new rover is built every year. Includes machining custom parts in the Kao ICS.
- Systems Engineering: Lunabotics uses the same project management system used by NASA, taught to team members by professional NASA system engineers.
