Spring 2026 Conference is Live!
The High Altitude Balloon (2025) team is working to launch high-altitude balloons, leading up to a planned launch of a large balloon to follow the jet stream across the ocean to northern Europe. They are actively developing electronics, communications, and scientific payloads to take advantage of this capability.
The team has stablished connections with the Amateur Radio Club at UT to design electrical and control equipment for high altitude balloons.
We are planning weather balloons and experimental payloads for flight!
The High Altitude Balloon team is led by our VP of Payload and Recovery, Isaac Smith. Isaac is a junior studying aerospace engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is the testing and instrumentation lead for HYPERSONICS and has previously been a member of PHOBOS (2024) and BIG LIQUID (2024). Isaac also works with Dr. Damiano Baccarella in the hypersonic arcjet wind tunnel lab here on campus.
